Zhongyuan University of Technology

Zhongyuan University of Technology ( formerly Zhengzhou Textile Institute), founded in 1955, is a public college of higher education run jointly by the state and Henan provincial government. Through the endeavors of several generations, the university has developed into one of the key comprehensive universities of science, economics, management, arts and law with engineering as its dominating sector. At present, the university consists of 18 schools and departments and offers 19 postgraduate programs and 46 undergraduate programs to over 15,000 full-time students. The university boasts an excellent faculty experienced in teaching, research and administration. Among the 838 full-time teachers, 298 are professors and associate professors and 442 of them have degrees of Masters or Doctors. There are also 40 visiting professors working for the university.

The university boasts a number of key disciplines and laboratories of provincial level as well as many research centers, of which the most important and famous are as follows: the Center of Textile Engineering and Technology, the Center of Fashion CAD Development&Application, the Center of Electrostatic Testing, Nano-meter Compounds Research Center, Automation Laboratory, the Research Center of Energy and Environment Engineering, the Research Center of Systems and Industry Engineering Technology, Electric Engineering Research Center,the Center of Middle-China Finery Culture and Fine Arts Design . These research centers and laboratories not only provide support for teaching, but also play an active role in promoting the development of local economy.In the past three years, the staff has taken on 148 various scientific and researching projects of national and provincial level. In 2004 and 2005, the university were successively ranked the first among the Henan Provincial Academics in terms of patent acceptance volume. The university published three academic journals, namely “ Transaction of ZUT ”, “ Group Techniques and Modernized Industry ” and “ Henan Textile Science and Technology ” enjoying considerable fame in the professional fileds. The library of University owns various collections of 15,000,000 books with 12 databases in Chinese and English. Its international-connected function of information searching, electronic reading room and MSL form a books information system of resourceful literature and information based on network. With its well-developed computer network, the university has been awarded the title of “Model Digitalized Campus of Henan Higher Education Academy” by Henan Provincial Department of Education.

The university persists in quality education rooted in fostering talents and centralized in teaching. In order to improve the students’ synthesized quality and creativities, the university gives prominence to practice teaching and encourages quality education. In recent years, the students have won 109 prizes in various contests such as National College Math Modeling, National College Electronic Design, National College “Challenge Cup” and so on, won 41 Gold and Silver Prizes in” China Cup Fashion Design Contest”. The graduates have been popular by the employers with 85 above percent obtaining employment upon graduation. In 2005 it was evaluated as Good in Undergraduate Education Evaluation by The Ministry of Education.

The university adheres to running the school open to the outside world. It has set up friendly relationships and carried out cooperation and academic exchanges with universities in U.S.A., UK, Russia, New Zealand, Sweden, Japan, Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan. The collaborative programs at undergraduate and postgraduate levels with the Universtiy of Manchester in UK, Ivanovo State Textile Academy in Russia, Unitec New Zealand Institution in New Zealand and Keimyung University in South Korea have recruited students from all over the country. It is one of the first group of colleges approved by the State Administration of Foreign Expert Affairs and the Ministry of Education to employ foreign experts and enroll foreign students.

With a total area of 0.9 square kilometers the university is based on three campuses (the base, the west and south). Two of the campuses (the base and the west) are located on Zhongyuan Road close to Zhengzhou Municipal Government. The newly-built Longhu campus is situated to south of the city in the Longhu Development Zone of Xinzheng City. Covering a much larger area, the new campus is beautifully arranged and has all the technological equipment and facilities for a modern university.

With the motto of “ Erudition and Magnanimous Virtue, Self-reliance ” fixed in mind, the staff and students are enthusiastically carrying forward the school spirit of “ diligence, preciseness, progress, civilization”, adhering to scientific development view and actively advancing the school construction.
